Charles Norman “Sutt” Claywell passed away January 25, 2021 in Chesapeake Va. with his children by his side. He was born May 11 1934 in Statesville N.C. to Clarence and Jessie Claywell. After serving in the Army during the Korean conflict and receiving an honorable discharge he went on to work on the railroad and later the Portsmouth Fire Department. He met the love of his life and married Joan Berry of Norfolk Va. They were married for 61 years until she passed in 2019. He was a member on New Creation UMC in Chesapeake and extremely proud of his 36 years of service in the Portsmouth Fire Department and his long association with the Ambassador Club of Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Margaret (Hammond) and brother Hugh (Alice). He and Joan are survived by their two children Paige Dillon (David) and Brad Claywell (Leesa), along with several grandchildren Riley, Amy, Ryan (Tiffany), Janelle (Brian) and a great grandsons Ronan and Nate along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
A small private service will take place at the Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk at a later date. Condolences may be left for the family at vacremationsociety.com.
