Virginia Beach ~ Shigeko Yakoshiji Cheek went to be with the Lord on Dec. 7, 2020 in Virginia Beach. Shigeko was born in Okayama, Japan on March 6, 1931, where she studied dressmaking and fashion. In Japan she met her husband while he was stationed at Naval Air Facility Atsugi Navy Base, in Kanagawa, Japan, they married and had two children Sandra and Vincent.
In 1969 the family relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she resided. She was a very beautiful, loving, dedicated and loyal Spouse, Mother, Grandmother and Friend to all. Her family, grandchildren, church family were her life and gave her great joy. She was a dedicated seamstress at Lowenthal Furriers for over 35 years until she retired. In 1992, she became a U.S. Naturalized Citizen, which gave her such pride. Her zest for life showed brightly as she was always exploring new things and conquering any challenge, in which she welcomed. Her fashion sense and style were to be admired. She loved to serve and cook Japanese cuisine such as sushi rolls and inari sushi for special events and holidays. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, reading, sewing, gardening, music, nature, art, style, fashion, cooking and time at church.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her spouse, Paul Cheek, daughter Sandra Midgette and son-n-law Allen Midgette, son Vincent Cheek and Penny Stevens, grandchildren, Zachary Midgette, Nathan Midgette, Ian Midgette, Kai Cheek and Mia Cheek, along with many friends.

A service and celebration of life will be held in 2021.
