It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of A. Holland Fairchild, 95, on Saturday, April 8, 2023 in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he has resided since 1988. The youngest of two brothers, Holland was born to E. Payson and Ruth Holland Fairchild in Glen Ridge, NJ on January 10, 1928.
After graduating from Newark Academy in New Jersey, Holland served as a US Army Sergeant. Leaving the Army, he studied and received a degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. While there, he met his future wife Barbara (Bobbie). They married in July of 1952.
Holland served as Director of Employee Relations for Chemplex, a startup joint venture by Getty Oil and American Can. He spent his final years there in domestic and international sales before retiring in 1988. He was President of the Northwest Industrial Council in Palatine, IL and served on the Village Board of Tower Lakes, IL for 8 years.
Holland was an active volunteer in Williamsburg, where he assisted in the initial establishment of the Colonial Williamsburg Volunteer Program. He served as a volunteer there for sixteen years. He was also a driver for Rides and FISH, and volunteered at the Williamsburg Community Hospital.
A loving husband and father, Holland survived his wife, Barbara, who passed away in 2021. They were married 69 years. He leaves behind his son Lee Fairchild and his wife Ann, Nancy Fairchild and her husband Greg Boreham; his daughter Judy Passman and her husband Jim Passman; his grandchildren Amy Haer (Graham), Thomas Fairchild (Jae), Scott Boreham (Brittney), Daniel Boreham, Joseph Passman, Matthew Passman (Brittney) and three great grandchildren, Henry Haer, Benjamin Haer and Beckett Passman. Holland’s three children were with him in his final days and want to publicly thank him for his unwavering belief in and support for them.
A Celebration of Life for Holland will be held at Windsor Meade in Williamsburg on April 28 at 2:00pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to the United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg VA 23185 or to a charity of your choice.
