Alfred Madison Thacker, 75, passed away on September 21, 2021. Alfred was born in Charlottesville, VA to the late Delwood and Louise Thacker. He was one of ten children.
Alfred, better known as Al or Papa, was a proud owner of his own electrical company, Thacker Electric Services. He was a business owner for more than 40 years. He was well known for his generous nature, often not charging for his services and helping friends and family in need.
Alfred was a lover of music and learned to play the guitar at an early age. In the times he wasn’t diligently working, you would find him with a guitar in hand playing a tune.
Al most enjoyed singing bluegrass music with his children and grandchildren. He shared that love of bluegrass with his loved ones by bringing them to bluegrass festivals. He loved to bring his grandchildren to work with him, and taught them the value of working for what you have.
He enjoyed his Canadian Mist and Coke, unless it was Christmas when he would exchange the Coke for an eggnog. You could always find him stirring his oyster stew with a grin on his face.
Al will be remembered for his loyal, generous, and hardworking character.
Al is survived by his daughter, Teresa Stranigan; son, James Thacker (Bernice); grandchildren: Christy Cochran (Christopher), Chandler Bowen (Zachary), James Thacker, Jr., and Carly Stranigan; great-grandchildren: Savanna Cochran, Fisher Bowen, and Felicity Bowen; and siblings: Mazsie Donald, Dorothy Farris, and Billy Thacker. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Conquering CHD at conqueringchd.org or Mended Little Hearts at mendedhearts.org in honor of his great-granddaughter Felicity.
