Alice Joy Curtis passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Joy was the first of five children born to Burley Andrews and Betty Wiggs Andrews on January 9, 1957 and grew up in the City of Norfolk, Virginia. In 1984 Joy married the love of her life, Michael “Turtle” Curtis and they were married for 42 years. In 1986 Joy and Turtle welcomed their baby girl, Erica, to the world who was her greatest source of joy and pride. Joy was a devoted and doting mother and wife and mama to many beloved cats.

She is survived by her husband, Michael L. Curtis; daughter, Erica F. Castle and husband, Edwin “Trey” Castle, III, of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Roger L. Andrews (Kristina) of Norfolk, Virginia and Arnold “Lee” Andrews (Julie) of Gloucester, Virginia; one sister, Arlene Kilgore (Warren), of Norfolk, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews: Kendall Andrews, Timothy Andrews, Christopher Andrews, Jenifer Andrews and Clayton Kilgore.

A celebration of life will be held at the home of Roger & Kris Andrews, 2452 Woolsey Street, Norfolk, Virginia on Friday, April 3, 2026 between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society in Joy’s memory.
