He spent several decades employed at McCallum Testing Laboratories in Chesapeake, VA working in many different roles, starting out as shop mechanic to drilling supervisor. He will greatly miss working with everyone there.
Darrel was a very active member at Thrive Church in Portsmouth, VA. He loved his church groups and going out to weekly dinners with his church families. He had a passion for anything that had an engine to include: cars, bikes, boats, tractors, construction equipment. When his children were growing up, he was always at some sort of sports field rooting them on and/or coaching them. He could not go anywhere in Hampton Roads without running into someone he knew. He was always giving of his time, love, and mechanic expertise to anyone that asked. He was a loyal, devoted Christian who lived and breathed the word of God until his dying day.
When he was not at church or at work, Darrel doted on his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them out to eat to their favorite restaurants, going to baseball games, splashing in the pool, listening to them sing, watching them play sports, and traveling with them.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 10am-11am at Thrive Church 5555 Portsmouth Boulevard, Portsmouth, VA 23701 with reception immediately following.
