Barbara Gayle Kirby Hansen of Virginia Beach gained her wings August 5th, 2025 at the age of 76. Barbara was born on July 18, 1949 in Studley, Virginia (Hanover County) to the late Malcus and Maude Kirby.

Barbara graduated from Lee Davis High School in 1967.  She then attended the Richmond Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating, she was a Registered Nurse for over 50 years. Her last years of working were spent as a RN case manager at Sentara Health Plans.

Preceded in death by her loving sister Patsy Arthur, Barbara is survived by her daughter Laura Laky, son Charles D. Fetty, (wife Nancy Fetty), daughter Cindy Hansen, Brother Donald Kirby, and Sister Diana Edmunds, as well as her Grandchildren, Joseph Fetty, (wife Emma Fetty), Rebecca Fetty, twins Kara Laky and Sara Laky and two great grandchildren, Oliver Fetty and Bodi Fetty. Barbara loved her family. She will be missed by so many wonderful people. She was not only an amazing mother, but a Grammy, MaMaw, sister and friend. She may have left this world, but her warmth and love will never leave our hearts. She could walk into any room and light it up automatically. Her energy was so contagious and that will be the thing our family misses the most. She was the kind of woman who made everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for. Her presence is irreplaceable and anyone to have ever met her would say the same. Her love was a light in our lives that will never fade.
