It is with much love that we mourn the passing of Barbara Anagail Hallmark on May 21, 2021 at the age of 75. She died peacefully surrounded by family and friends, after years of a valiant battle with multiple illnesses which concluded with cancer. Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Deanna Goldston and Stephanie Kiernan, her daughter-in-law Kristi Butler-Goldston and her two grandsons, Caleb and Owen.
Barbara was preceded in death by Alma Lowery (mother), Durwood Jackson Hallmark (father), William Hallmark (brother), and Kitty Weller (sister). Barbara had her tribe of incredible women by her side, lifelong friends including Brenda Payne, Sharon Lamb, Carolyn Butler and recently deceased Barbara Hallmark (2/20/2021). Yes, the Barbara Hallmarks were together in body on earth and now they are together in soul for eternity.
Barbara was a kind person with a heart of gold and loved by many. She was a master seamstress with a knack for window treatments, sewing clothing and unique artistry which she passed along to both of her daughters.
Barbara enjoyed doing anything outdoors, especially if it was with her kids or grandsons. In her younger years, there was nothing she enjoyed better than basking in the sun at the beach or by the pool. She also had a passion for camping, packing up her daughters and going to Kerr Dam or driving through the mountains to Riven Rock in the Shenandoah Valley and catching tadpoles.
Barbara’s two grandsons made up the entirety of her world and she would let you know it. From the cashier at Kroger or the stranger in line behind her, she would boast proudly of Caleb’s latest baseball achievement, his respectful behavior and good looks or Owen’s excelled intellect and adult verbiage that amazes anyone who talks to him. Barbara’s grandsons love her unconditionally and will never forget the excitement of going to sleepovers at Grandma’s, knowing they would be spoiled rotten with chocolate milk and countless hours of playing board games.
Thank you, Momma, for raising your daughters the best you could and teaching them to be strong, kind, independent, passionate and determined women, just like you.
God Saw You Getting Tired
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you and whispered,
“Come to Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
