Virginia Beach ~Betty S. Horner 86 passed away in Virginia Beach during the early morning hours of July 7, 2019 from a short illness.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Robert C. Saunders Sr. and Lucy L. Dozier Saunders and by her husband Robert F. Horner.  She was pre-deceased by her parents Robert C. Saunders Sr. and Lucy L. Dozier Saunders and by her husband Robert F. Horner.

Betty was born September 28, 1932 in Princess Anne County/VA Beach. Betty graduated from Oceana High School and. Upon graduation she began working for the Department of Defense where she continued throughout her career. Betty was a member of The Gathering at Scott Memorial UMC her entire life, furthering her worship as a member of the JOBS Daughters and Eastern Star – Where she held several leadership positions, advancing to Worthy Matron. She was a longtime member of the church choir.

Survived by brothers Robert C. Saunders Jr. and wife Sally and James A. Saunders Sr.  and wife Shirley and Sister in Law Carolyn Martin and several and several nieces and nephews including Sharon Meredith (Mike), Ronald Pizzanello (Andria), Glen Pizzanello (Carmen), James “Jimmy” Saunders (Dana), Jeff Saunders, Debra Saunders, and Clay Saunders and several grandchildren. An organizer with an outgoing personality, Betty was always at the center of activity at work and in the various organizations (including the Oceana High School Alumni Association) that were fortunate to have her participation. Betty was an organizer/facilitator serving in many leadership positions.

A memorial service will be held at The Gathering at Scott Memorial at 5:00 July 18, visitation will be from 3:45-4:45. Pastor Stephanie Parker and Minister of Pastoral Care Bob Pearsall will perform the worship service. Donations may be made to   Scott Memorial UMC, 409 First Colonial Road.
