Bonnie’s early years were spent in eastern Indiana, before settling in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of sixteen. She attended Centerville-Abington Elementary School and Centerville-Abington Junior High School before continuing her education at Greenfield-Central High School. Despite not graduating, Bonnie’s determination led her to obtain her GED in 2008, the same year her daughter graduated high school.
Throughout her school years, Bonnie found joy in drama and chorus, showcasing her creative talents and beautiful voice. She also delighted in drawing Fred Flintstone and various other cartoon characters for her younger sister, Heather.
On August 26th of 1986, Bonnie welcomed her beloved son, Mathew Heise, into the world, marking the beginning of her journey into motherhood. At the tender age of sixteen, Bonnie married Gabriel Stephan, and together they resided in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, where their daughter, Kristian Stephan, was born on June 19th, 1989.
In pursuit of new beginnings, Bonnie and her family moved to Colonial Beach, Virginia, in 1994, where she embarked on her culinary career as a chef at the Riverboat on the Potomac, demonstrating her culinary talents and passion for cooking.
Despite life’s challenges, Bonnie’s resilient spirit shone through, and she persevered through difficult times, including her divorce from Gabriel in 1998. It was in October 2010 that Bonnie found love once again when she met Michael Hall. Their love story blossomed, and they were married on October 17, 2018, in Newport News, Virginia, surrounded by their closest family members.
Bonnie’s culinary journey continued to flourish as she worked at various establishments, including TJ’s Tavern, Golden Corral, and Warwick Restaurant, honing her skills, and sharing her culinary delights with others. Her dedication and passion for her craft led her to become the Executive Breakfast Chef at the Hilton Garden in Newport News in 2019, a role she held with immense pride.
She was predeceased by her mother, Pamela Heise, and her stepfather, Frank Heise. Bonnie leaves behind her devoted husband, Michael Hall; her son, Mathew Heise (Gina), her daughter, Kristian Stephan, Kristian’s partner Caitlin, her stepson, Tim Haas (Jackie), her grandchildren, Xander, October, Elizabeth, and Emma; her brother, Stephen Heise (Paula), her half-sister, Heather Heise-Reeves (Jason), her stepbrother, Ed Heise (Leisa), her stepsister, Dawn Winters, and her uncle, Randy Bowser (Tia), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held for Bonnie on March 19, 2024, at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Riverside, Newport News, Virginia at 6:30pm, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her life. A small repass will follow at the same location.
