Captain John Robert Busch, USN, Ret. passed away on October 11, 2021, in the company of his family.

Captain Busch was the eldest son of Harold and Mary Jane Busch. Born January 29, 1939, in Champaign, Illinois, he resided until graduating from the University of Illinois with a BA in Landscape Architecture. Upon graduation, he entered Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating and commissioned an Ensign in the Naval Reserve in 1965.

Captain Busch experienced a 27-year career in the Navy with a myriad of assignments both afloat and ashore, including Command at Sea. He attained an advanced degree from the Naval War College.

He was a long-time member of Cypress Point Country Club, where he enjoyed the friendship of his many golfing friends.

He leaves behind to remember him, his wife, Sheree Bond Busch, of nearly 40 years, as well as three daughters, Anna Busch Ketter, Virginia Busch Bain, and Shafer Lee Busch, and husband, Joseph Greenawalt, Jr., three grandchildren Lila Addison Bain, Madilynn Elizabeth Bain, and Ryland John Joseph Greenawalt, two brothers, Charles Thomas Busch and David Carl Busch, and sister-in-law Linda Bond Richendollar.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery (Section L). Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project by visiting www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Captain John Busch was a gentleman of extraordinary generosity and kindness. We shared our lives over forty years ago as we were both in duress, and then of healing, and finding a loving and wonderful life partner. John was a ''blue ribbon' brother whose gentle strengths I shall always remember and cherish. My condolences to his family and especially to his loving wife and partner Sherri. Much fondness to all.

John Busch was a fine gentleman of extraordinary generosity and true kindness. We shared our lives over forty years ago when we were both in a state of duress, and of healing, finding, and living a loving and wonderful life partner again John was a ''blue ribbon' brother whose gentle strengths will always be remembered and cherished. My condolences to his loving family especially his loving wife and partner Sherri. Much fondness to all.

John Busch was the finest boss I ever worked for in over 40 years. He was a prince among men. Patient, intelligent, and fatherly. As the Chief Staff Officer for Commander, Amphibious Squadron TWO, he had the presence of mind to let a handful of Lieutenants run the squadron. But he had the brilliance to divine the future, see the shoal water ahead of us, and in his fatherly way recommend we make change course by a degree or two, and escape making a mistake. We had the illusion we running things, but ever so quietly from behind the scenes, John Busch made sure everything stayed on track. He was a great boss and a great shipmate and friend. I will miss his wisdom and advice. May his memory be eternal.
