Captain John Robert Busch, USN, Ret. passed away on October 11, 2021, in the company of his family.
Captain Busch was the eldest son of Harold and Mary Jane Busch. Born January 29, 1939, in Champaign, Illinois, he resided until graduating from the University of Illinois with a BA in Landscape Architecture. Upon graduation, he entered Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating and commissioned an Ensign in the Naval Reserve in 1965.
Captain Busch experienced a 27-year career in the Navy with a myriad of assignments both afloat and ashore, including Command at Sea. He attained an advanced degree from the Naval War College.
He was a long-time member of Cypress Point Country Club, where he enjoyed the friendship of his many golfing friends.
He leaves behind to remember him, his wife, Sheree Bond Busch, of nearly 40 years, as well as three daughters, Anna Busch Ketter, Virginia Busch Bain, and Shafer Lee Busch, and husband, Joseph Greenawalt, Jr., three grandchildren Lila Addison Bain, Madilynn Elizabeth Bain, and Ryland John Joseph Greenawalt, two brothers, Charles Thomas Busch and David Carl Busch, and sister-in-law Linda Bond Richendollar.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery (Section L). Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project by visiting www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
