Carol Ann Harper, affectionately known as CHarli, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 78. Born on May 15, 1947, in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, CHarli lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and cherished memories.

CHarli was a woman of many talents and passions. Her career as a commercial pilot was a testament to her adventurous spirit and determination. She was a true artist at heart, expressing herself through photography, graphic design, and poetry. Her artistic endeavors captured the beauty she saw in the world and touched the lives of those around her.

A devoted collector, CHarli had a particular fondness for antiques, with a special interest in Mah Jong. Her home was a reflection of her eclectic tastes and her appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

CHarli possessed a deep love for all animals big and small. Her kindness extended to all creatures, reflected in the care she gave her many pets from cats and dogs to the squirrels she loved to feed in her garden. She also enjoyed collecting tropical and salt water fish and once ran a hobby farm of purebred goats.

CHarli leaves behind Bob, her soulmate; her children: Sean Harper (Jody), Stacey Garcia (Robby), and Scott Harper; her three grandchildren: Markus, Zane, and Rylan; and many extended relatives and close friends who will miss her dearly.

CHarli’s warmth, generosity, creativity, and love for life will be remembered by all who knew her. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

CHarli was a dear friend for many years, contributing to the mah jong community in ways nobody else could match. She was also tech savvy, interested in many forms of art, and we spent lots of time sharing ideas about the many designs you see on the hundreds of sets she collected and showed on her Book pages. Charli lived a very interesting and varied life, she will be missed greatly but remembered with love.

Sending sincere condolences to Bob on the loss of your soul mate. You were a wonderful and devoted partner. So glad we had the pleasure to meet CHarli.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Charli's today. Our friendship and passion for collecting Mah Jong sets started when I first met Charli at the beginning of my collection some twenty- five years ago. We were both avid collectors and proud Canadians. As true collectors, we did not compete but tried to help each other. We both suffered hardships last year when we each lost part of our collections through water damage. Rest in peace, Carol Ann. We will miss you. Allan Weitz Montreal Canda

Her loss is incalculable….she was the very best! I can’t even begin to share how many times I did research on various sets using her book. I had hoped to purchase the book when she was finished. What a loss! My deepest sympathies to her family and to the Mah Jongg community at large.

I am so very sad on the loss of this wonderful lady. She was a true artist, and had an upbeat attitude, even when her health began to fail. My deepest condolences to her family. I will always think of her fondly.
