Carroll Lynn Ainsley, 73, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018. Born to Onwood and Nona Etheridge Ainsley on August 9, 1945, he resided at the Methodist Orphanage/Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, NC, for 9 years. After graduating from H.S. Central in Elizabeth City, N.C., he entered the Air Force in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1968 as a Vietnam veteran. After serving with the military, he retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 29 years of service.
Preceding him in death was a brother Carl Ainsley.
Survivors include his best friend, Sylvia Ainsley of Newport News; children, Evelyn Ainsley of Newport News, Patricia (Nathan) Lamarche of Smithfield, Lucy (Antonio) Adkinson of Newport News, Jessica Dickey of Ohio and Matthew Stallings of Newport News; grandchildren, Thea and Elijah Ainsley, Deja and Calvin Howell, all of Newport News, Lucy and Nathan Lamarche of Smithfield, Garrett and Madison Dickey of Ohio, Lamiyah Jones-Stallings and Michael Stallings of Hampton and Malikal Castle; his great-granddaughter, Mahlani; two brothers, Charles (Laurie) Ainsley of Edenton, NC and Russell Gauldin of Danville; sister, Elizabeth (Randy) Ashford of Danville; one nephew and two nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date with inurnment in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans National Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
During this most difficult time, his daughter, Lucy; grandchildren, Deja and Calvin and great-granddaughter, Mahlani are faced with many financial expenses including household, medical, school and every day expenses just to mention a few. Lucy has been on family leave of absence since August, to assist with her father’s care.
