Charles N. Moses, age 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22, 2024.

He was born February 27, 1937 at home during a snowstorm in Norfolk Va.  His parents Carl and Jenny Moses preceded him in death.   Charles married the love of his life, June, on January 3, 1955.  They were married for 65 years before she preceded him in death in 2019.

Charles and June have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.  Charles, Phillip (Alabama) wife Pam, Stephen and Rebecca.  Michael (Virginia) wife Lynn, daughter Jen, Ann (North Carolina) husband Danny, Stephanie, Charles and Victor.  Bobbie (North Carolina) husband Steve, Brittany, Elizabeth, Katlyn and Morgan.  15 great grandchildren.

Charles is also survived by brother-in-law Samuel E. Guill (Arizona).

While living in Washington D.C as a young man, dad was on the YMCA swim team, Troop 13 Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Sea Scouts.   Dad lost his best friend Phillip Duckworth Merritt in a Sea Scout accident when he was 14. This accident was so devastating the family moved back to Norfolk, Va.  When Charles and June had their first child he was named after his friend.  He left school in the 9th grade to help his family.  Dad worked odd jobs until he was hired by Burke & Gregory Printing Company with an apprenticeship, then went to Withers Printing Company with an apprenticeship. He spent about 4 years at each.  October 23, 1959 was his first day at The Virginia Pilot-Ledger Star.  Dad was there for 40 years, before retiring in June 1999.  He worked as a printer, machinist and composing room foreman. He supervised 226 printers, 9 machinists and 6 apprentices, electronics. Dad also was an Electronics Service Manager, Electrician Technician, Facilities Manager, Property Manager with 26 buildings and 7 departments.  Dad was in The Army National Guard from 1955 to 1969.  He was assigned to the 111th Field Artillery, 29th Infantry Division Battery B.  He had many stories he would tell about his days in the guard. When he left he had earned the rank of First Sergeant. Dad’s many hobbies were, going on long car rides with mom, hunting, fishing, overhaulin’ cars, reading, and woodworking.  He made many baskets, birdhouses as well as furniture.  The family would like to thank our extended family, cousins from Missouri, Cousin Donna, friends and his close neighbors for all the love and respect for our father over many years.  The nurses and staff of Comfort Care Home Health and HOSPICE for all their support.

The family will hold a celebration of life on Saturday August 3, 2024 at dad’s house beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charles’ name to The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters: CHKD- Att: Philanthropy, P.O. Box 2156, Norfolk, VA 23501.
