Clyde "(Skip)" Carl Schroeder

May 8, 1934 - April 22, 2019

Virginia Beach ~ Clyde C. Schroeder (Skip) went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2019. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Born in Milwaukee, Wis. In 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Major Otto Schroeder, U.S. Army and Mildred Schroeder. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Louise, three sons, Jeffrey and his wife Annie, Philip and his wife Jessica, Andrew and his wife Lisa. Also 2 grandsons, Duncan and Evan, 4 granddaughters, Leah, Sarah, Abigail and Collen and 1 great grandson Christian.

He graduated from Pacific Grove high school, California and from the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1958. He served in Vietnam, with the Seabees, and other naval stations. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the City of Norfolk and volunteered for 20 years at the Kempsville Library. He was a member of the Kempsville Ruritans, the Community United Methodist Men, and a faithful member of the Friendship Sunday School class.

There will be a memorial service at Community United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 18 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CUMC memorial fund or to Meals on Wheels of Virginia Beach, 3750 Sentara way, Va. Beach 23452

Dear Aunt Lou, We are so very sorry to hear of Uncle Skip's passing. It must have been a very trying time for you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. Much love, Leslie & Tony

Skip was super guy, dedicated to his family, his Church, and his friends. My condolences to Lou and the "boys". In his spare time he played "cards" once a month with several of his old Navy friends, and kept the game going for over forty years. He will be missed.

Deepest condolences to the Schroeder family. Skip was a great volunteer for many years at the Kempsville Library. We would chat from time and time and I learned that I attended high school with his son Andrew. From that point on, he would give me updates on Andrew and his family. He was extremely dedicated to his family and to his service as a volunteer. I am fortunate to have known him.

I am so very sorry to hear of Skip's passing. He was a steadfast volunteer at Kempsville Library from the day I started work. Prayers to his many friends and family.

A full life lived! I remember the first day Skip came to the Kempsville Library to volunteer. He came to the Information Desk and asked me if we had "anything a retired guy could do to get out of the house and stay active"! Little did we know that he would serve a faithful 20 years of service at our agency! Skip was a real gentleman who reported to volunteer each day in time and ready to work. He worked with precision and was an invaluable member of our staff. Our agency even declared and celebrated a "Skip Day" in honor of his many years of library service. To Lou and the family, it was a personal honor for me to have known and worked with Skip for the 20 years he volunteered at Kempsville. We will not gave a more loyal volunteer pass through our doors. Be encouraged during this sad time and trust that you will reflect fondly on precious family memories.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Skip. He was such a wonderful addition to the staff at Kempsville Library for so many years. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed.
