Constance (Connie) DeVane Hess, 75, passed away on December 9, 2018 after complications resulting from congestive heart failure. Connie was born on February 13, 1943 to Neal and Mildred DeVane. Connie was raised in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from Granby High School, Class of 1961.  She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (1965) and later a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University (1989).  Connie was employed by the Virginia Beach Public Schools for 34 years as a teacher and as a counselor. In her retirement, Connie was a Career Switcher Mentor through Regent University.

Connie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill Hess, her two daughters, Carin Owen and Betsy (Chris) Harvell, her brother Buck (Stacy) DeVane, her grandchildren Jordan and Luke Owen, Ethan Harvell, cousins Suzanne (Mike) Ruff, Nancy DeVane. Inga (John) Franklin, and Jack (Jane) Murphy, sisters-in-law Pat Hess and Cathey (Ken) Newton and niece Sarah Castrillon.  Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Neal DeVane, brother Gary DeVane, and granddaughter, Maura Harvell.

In keeping with Connie’s wishes, there will a Celebration of Life service at London Bridge Baptist Church on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to support the website CaringBridge at www.CaringBridge.org
