Darryl Eugene Sears, 77, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. A Vietnam War veteran, he was a brave Marine who deeply loved and respected his country. He could always be found with a fishing pole in hand or gearing up for a deer hunt. He was always willing to extend a hand and help those he loved and those in need. He was dearly loved and will be missed. We find comfort in knowing that he was greeted in heaven by his fellow Marines (a few good men) as they celebrated and said, “Welcome home, brother.”

I am one of the people who was privileged enough to have met Darryl and be blessed by his kindness. I was/still am in need of help but never expected anything from Mr. Sears other than the recyclables that I collected from him and in the few years I knew him, he had become someone I could say that is near and dear to my heart. His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten and forever appreciated. Thank You.

A service for Darryl will be September 25th at 2:00pm at The Albert Horton Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.

Darryl will surely be missed

Grandpa... there are not enough words to express all the things I want to say. You were one of the nicest people I have ever met. I thank you so much for loving and taking such good care of my grandma. You two were love birds and it was a joy to witness. You were always there to help with whatever I needed. Whether it was a question, car issue, house issue, or just needing advice or comfort. I loved hearing about your life and Vietnam stories. All of the silly videos and memes you would send me. You helped me through one of the hardest times of my life and then helped me welcome the most beautiful thing I have ever done, Connor. Your little buddy and great grandson. I will show him pictures and tell him stories about you and how much you loved him. Thank you for loving Caitlin and I as your own daughters. Thank you for all of the memories, laughs, tears, and most importantly, thank you for your service to out country. I highly respect you and you will be so deeply missed. I love you dearly... and like you recently said to me... "you just don't know how much."

My dear friend, Bonnie and family: We are so very sorry to hear of Darryl's passing. We can't express our heartfelt sorrow enough. You were such a loving couple - it was a joy to see. We are so glad that you found each other again. Darryl was one of the good guys. We enjoyed spending time with you both.
