David Earl Thornton, born October 2, 1960, in Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, in Richmond, VA, at the age of 65. David’s life was a testament to service, dedication, and passion for the things he loved most: his family, his country, and the open road.

David proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the camaraderie and discipline inherent in military service. Following his time in the Navy, David channeled his strong work ethic into entrepreneurship, owning and operating D&D Towing alongside his beloved wife, Deborah. As a wrecker operator, he was known for his reliability, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to helping those in need.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David found joy and freedom riding motorcycles, feeling the wind on his face as he traversed scenic routes. His love for motorcycles was more than a hobby; it was a passion that brought him a sense of adventure and peace.

David was a cherished member of Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, where he found a supportive community that shared his values of faith and service. His quiet strength and generosity of spirit were evident to all who knew him, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and integrity.

Preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Thornton. David is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Thornton; children, daughter, Sarah Marie Phelps; sons, Joshua and Brandon Thornton; and daughter, Alysa Thornton. His family remembers him as a devoted husband and father whose love and guidance were constants in their lives.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, located at 848 Baker Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 on January 24, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor a life well-lived and to share in the memories of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of many.
