Many great memories of David as pastor at KPC.
Bill Burroughs left a message on December 7, 2020:
Knowing that David has passed is a loss for everyone who knew him and a personal loss for me. As his cousin, I always admired and respected him and even looked up to him. He had a special clarity of thought and practical application of the gospel that I always found insightful and comforting. Although our paths didn't seem to cross often enough, every time they did, I came away feeling like I had been in the presence of a man who truly loved the Lord, and his family, and his friends. Although we are all diminished by his passing we are comforted in the knowledge he is in the presence of God and family.

David and I met over 59 years ago at Hampden-Sydney College. No two students were so obviously opposite; he was the intelligent, studious scholar and I was the dumb jock. Yet, we became bound in a friendship that withstood all the tests that so many years provide. He was proud to have adopted me as his “big brother” and I was equally proud to accept. When my son was born, there was no question who his namesake would be. I will miss my Little Brother greatly.

My wife Mary Beth and I loved David and knew here well. David was not only a great pastor but a good friend. We are so very sorry for his passing and David will be missed by us and many others. May the Lord comfort the family during this difficult time.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

We knew David as our pastor at Kempsville Presbyterian Church and he, along with Father George Stockhowe of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, married us on November 23, 1985. Also had the memorable experience of joining a group led by Reverend Anderson on a trip to Israel in approximately 1980.
Betty Arehart left a message on December 2, 2020:
Robert and I enjoyed our time at Kempsville Presbyterian with David as our pastor and we thought his sermons were the best! He always gave a good, meaty, 20 minutes or 20, Presbyterian sermon! We pray for God's peace, comfort, and provision for his family.
