Dennis C. Watson, 79, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on September 8, 2024. He was born on October 8, 1944, in Roxboro, North Carolina, and dedicated much of his life to serving both his community and country.

Dennis was a cherished member of his family. He is survived by his sons, Brian S. Watson (Jennifer), Sean A. Watson (Stacey), and David K. Watson (Cristina); his brother, Webb Watson (Rita); his grandchildren, Sara Seigla (Brian), Jason, Alyssa, Finn, and Grace; and his great-grandson, Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Jane Watson; his brother, Dexter Watson; and his longtime companion, Sylvia Altman.

After graduating from Windsor High School, Dennis joined the U.S. Army in October 1963, serving until October 1966. His military service instilled a deep sense of discipline and honor, traits he carried into his subsequent career.

In October 1966, Dennis joined the Virginia Beach Police Department. He served for 38 years in various roles, including Patrol, the Detective Bureau, and Special Operations. He retired as a lieutenant in January 2004. Dennis was deeply committed to his colleagues, always putting his officers first in the decisions he made. He left a lasting impact on the community and his peers.

An avid sports enthusiast, Dennis passionately supported the Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals. He loved skiing and coached the Virginia Beach Police softball team for many years. He also helped to establish one of the largest national softball tournaments, which led to travel across various states.

Dennis’s love for travel and his passion for exploring local food and wines were equaled only by the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends.

The Watson family will hold a private memorial service. Per Dennis’ wishes a celebration of life will be held on October 19^th, 2024, from 2:00 p.m.– 4 p.m. at Thin Brew Line in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Dennis’s memory. His life was a testament to family and service, and he will be dearly missed.
