Donald Dean Ramey, born January 3, 1939, in the mountains of Kentucky, decided to hang up his hat and ride off into the sunset on December 4, 2025, at the ripe old age of 86. He passed away in Newport News, VA, a place he called home and where his Harley often roared down the streets.
Donald’s journey began with a stint in the U.S. Army, where he learned the value of discipline and a well-pressed uniform. However, it was at Newport News Shipbuilding that he truly made his mark as a General Foreman in the Welding Department. There, he wielded both a welding torch and a commanding presence, shaping ships and lives with equal precision.
When he wasn’t busy building ships, Donald could be found cruising the open road on his beloved motorcycle, the wind in his hair and a grin on his face. If the weather was right and the fish were biting, you’d likely find him casting a line off the dock, enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
A man of many passions, Donald was also a devoted family man. He cherished every family reunion and get-together, where his laughter and stories added warmth to every gathering. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, but leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the form of his beloved wife Sarah Ramey, and his sons Donald Ramey Jr. and Christopher Ramey, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
In keeping with Donald’s wishes, his family will be holding a private celebration to honor his memory. As they gather to share stories and reminisce, they’ll remember a man who lived life with gusto, loved deeply, and rode boldly into the great beyond. Rest easy, Donald, and may the roads be smooth and the skies forever sunny on your eternal ride.
