Donald (Don) Eugene Nivens Jr., 61, Passed away Thursday, December 9th, 2021 in Norfolk,

Virginia surrounded by the love of his friends and family after a tough fight with cancer. Don was born December 5th, 1960 to Donald Nivens Sr. and Helen Blakemore in Mecklenburg, North Carolina.

Don was full of love and laughs. He made great friends who became family everywhere he went. He worked at many different places and did many different things during his lifetime. His most recent was as a USCG H-65 Aircraft Mechanic at ALC in Elizabeth City, NC. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do with his vast amount of knowledge.

He enjoyed boating, gardening, golfing, and being a prankster just to name a few but his pride and joy was his daughter, Samantha. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Donna. Left to cherish his memories are Samantha (Timmy) and his grandson, Tennessee, his sister Ann (Seth) and their family, his brother John (Paige) and their family, his companion Robin and her family, and a lifetime worth of great friends.

Jr was my nephew. I remember him when he was little. A little fireball that one was. And was a fireball til the end. The last phone call we had he had told me was tired. And if cancer came back he wasn’t going to fight it. He was tire and now he’s at peace. He will be missed. He was loved. Praying for his sister Ann and brother John, the rest of family. Find comfort in knowing he’s free now and not in pain.

I had the pleasure of working with Don over the last 6-7 years and getting to know Don very well. He was a very unique and one of a kind guy and special to a lot of people. He will truly be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and other friends.

We are blessed to call Don framily and will carry the love and joy of knowing him with us forever.

He will be missed. I pray for his family and his friends. He was a great man.
