Don Provo was born on September 6, 1937 in Wilson, NC, the youngest child of John E. Provo and Annie Lee Barbour Provo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, John E. Jr., William Hobson, and Robert.
He served an oversees two year tour of duty with the US Army in Babenhausen, Germany as a Specialist 4, Artillery Surveyor. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army after six years of service both active duty and reserves.
Don earned a Bachelor of Science in Math Education from North Carolina State University and a Masters of Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
In 1961 he married the love of his life, Annes Parrish Provo in Raleigh, NC and they settled in Lexington, NC. Best friends and sweethearts, they were never far apart from one another over the nearly 64 years they were married.
Don was an avid believer in the power of the community college system and was an early pioneer of developmental technical math for trade professions. He served as the Chairman of Applied Math and Sciences at Davidson Community College in Lexington, NC. Then at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg, VA as the Head of the Math Program and Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Don finished his career as an educator at J Sargent Reynolds Community College where he served as Associate Math Professor and taught mathematics at all levels from Developmental to Advanced Calculus.
He greatly enjoyed traveling, gardening, sports, golf, tennis and fishing. He and Annes took trips all over the country and the world and made many friends in their travels. Don and Annes spent the last 10 years living New Kent where he could usually be found sitting on the front porch visiting with numerous neighbors who enjoyed his sense of humor.
Toward the end of his life, Don would wish everyone he met to “Have a Good Life”.
He is survived by his wife Annes and his son Greg.
