Dorothy Janice Hess, of Norfolk, Virginia passed from this Earth peacefully on the morning of January 9th, 2022. Dorothy was born on September 17, 1931 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to parents Jacob and Catherine Springer.
Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife to her husband James Bates Hess, and they raised two wonderful children Jacob Hess, and Debra Hess Joyce. The family settled in Norfolk, Virginia where Bates was stationed as Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. Dorothy worked as a Nurse for over 40 years, and continued to work well into her retirement years caring for others. She was a beloved grandmother to her 5 grandchildren, and loved supporting them in their activities and many endeavors.
Dorothy is preceded in passing by her beloved husband James Bates Hess and children Jacob Hess and Debra Hess Joyce. Left to cherish her memory is daughter-in-law Heidi Hess, granddaughter Jayme Otero (husband Luis Otero), granddaughter Shelby Caputo (husband Bruno Caputo), granddaughter Stephanie Cox (husband Jason Cox), grandson Jacob Hess, and granddaughter Hannah Hess. Her 5 great-grandchildren Jason, Harlow and Hunter Cox, and Luca James Caputo. Her 4 siblings, Jean Stillwagon, Audrey Martin, Frank Springer, and Linda Scott. Her two furry companions, Chloe and Clyde, as well as many loved ones and cherished friends who knew her as Gram, Grammy, Dot, Dottie, or Aunt Doffie.
