Dorothy M. “Dottie” Mathews, 87, of Norfolk, VA passed away May 5th, 2022 at home surrounded by her Family.

Born on Mother’s Day in Cleveland, Ohio, May 12^th, 1934. The beloved daughter of the late Mary and Vance Gregory, Sr.

Predeceased by her Loving husband of 64 years, Joseph R. Mathews, Jr. Survived by her children: son Joseph R III and his wife Theresa, granddaughter Erin, daughter Karen Devereaux and her husband Dean, grandson Paul, son Gregory and his wife Lisa, granddaughter Megan, grandson Eric, son Michael , and son Thomas  and his wife Faith, sisters Fran Bodnar, and Marion Gregory, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Thomas, and Vance Gregory, Jr., and sisters Julie Stark, and Emilie Gregg.

She graduated from Lourdes Academy, Cleveland, Ohio, and soon after met the love of her life, “Bob” on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, and they were married in April of 1955. She was a Devout Catholic her entire life and loved attending Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Dottie was a cancer survivor and knew her Faith in God had sustained her. She was a loving devoted mother and wife.  She got the most joy from and was the proudest of her family. She loved her children and being a Mom and a Grammy.

Funeral Mass will be 11 am, on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 154 W Government Ave, Norfolk, VA 23503.

A private burial service will follow.
