Dorothy Virginia Higgins was born to George and Mary Smith on January 27, 1924 in New York, NY. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Dorothy was a faithful witness who followed in her mother’s footsteps and remained so until her passing. She was baptized in August of 1939 and shared many beautiful experiences with those she came in contact with. Her work, which she has been awarded for many times, was in the food industry as a cashier, but her true passion was for sewing and jewelry making.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Julius C. Higgins, and from that union, her son, Julius was born.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Julius (Ruby) of Hampton; grandson, Derrick (Mary) of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughter, Cheryl Acevedo (James) of Newport News; great-grandson, Bobby More of Phoenix, AZ; great-granddaughter, Christina Moore of Newport News and great-great-grandson, Jayden Moore of Newport News, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Many friends have been so kind since her illness, and the family will continue to be thankful for the love that has been shown.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with the arrangements.
