Edna Inez Rubelmann, 90, of Chesapeake passed away April 13, 2020.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Lynn Clark; Alvin Carl Rubelmann, and Daughter in Law, Patricia Rubelmann; Sondra Kay Williams and Son in Law David Freeman Williams. Edna has eight grandchildren (Charles Anthony “Tony” Young, Sasha Marie Burbage, Justin Bonsignore, Haydn Rubelmann III, Holley Christine Rubelmann, Rachel Rubelmann, Jonathan Garrett Blakeman, and Christa Stadig) and eight great grandchildren (Hayleigh Bonsignore, Jamie Bonsignore, Brooke Bonsignore, Haydn Nash, Holden Stadig, Harrison Stadig, Raelyn Faith Young and Riley Hope Young), with another due in June.

Edna “Eddie” Rubelmann was born on January 8, 1930, in Edneyville, North Carolina. Eddie was the daughter of the late Edward and Iola McCraw Brown of Edneyville. She was preceded in death by her son, Haydn Rubelmann, Jr, her husband Haydn Rubelmann, Sr., as well as her sisters, Beulah “Toodie” Freeman, Grace “Pete” Melton, Carrie Davis; half-brothers, James Brown, Bob Brown, and half sister Brenda Johnson.

Edna was fiercely devoted to her family and country.  She served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, a true patriot. As per law of her generation, she left the military upon the pregnancy of her first child. Over the years, she was a much-loved mother and wife, who gave selflessly for the betterment of her family.  Her hobbies included bowling, relaxing on the beach and gardening.  Bowling, her passion, gave her a chance to socialize with others who also shared her passion for the sport.  In addition to league play, she and her “league girls” attended regional and national tournaments all over the USA, and at the age of 71, she was the first female in the area to bowl a perfect 300 game.

Edna will receive military honors in a memorial service, which will be held on Saturday August 14, 2021 at Portlock United Methodist Church 2615 Bainbridge Blvd. Chesapeake, Virginia 23324.  The Cremation Society of Virginia, Newport News, is in charge of arrangements.
