Edward Louis Hoppe, Jr, 74, of Norfolk, VA, beloved husband and father, went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2021, with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Edward L. Hoppe, Sr., and Nellie L. (Roberts) Hoppe of Virginia Beach, VA.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jacqueline (West) Hoppe, his daughter Dawn Hoppe (husband, Christopher) Miller and their son Cody of Henrico, VA, and his son Edward L. (wife, Alucare) Hoppe, III, their sons Jacob, Tyler and Luke, and their daughter Juliana of Mechanicsville, VA, and his sister Nancy L. Hoppe of Virginia Beach, VA.
Ed attended Frederick Military Academy and Old Dominion University. He retired from 29 years of civil service at the Norfolk Naval Station and ten years at Canon ITS in Chesapeake, VA. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his love for family and sports.
Early on, Ed met and married the love of his life, Jackie (West) Hoppe. He and Jackie lived a happy, quiet life in Norfolk for 54 years. His family meant more to him than anything else, and he was unendingly proud of his twins, to whom he gave every opportunity in the world.
Ed served as a coach, umpire, and regional and state softball official for decades. He especially treasured coaching for Norfolk Christian, which both of his children attended, and at which his wife taught for 34 years.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association. No services will be held at this time. The family will privately celebrate his life later.
