Elizabeth Ann Simmons Butler, 55, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born September 24, 1965 to Theodore N. and Claire W. Simmons in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a graduate of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, VA, Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA, and Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA where she obtained a Masters Degree in Education.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore N. Simmons and Claire W. Stevens. She is survived by her husband of 31 years Jeffery Keith Butler, daughters, Chelsea Butler and Rachel (Luke) Butler, sisters, Karen (Eddie) Houchins and Margaret (Chris) Marcotte, step-father, Robert Stevens, nieces, Emily (Tyler) Floyd, Ashley (Tyler) Smith, nephews, Teddy Marcotte, Ethan Marcotte, and great niece, Elizabeth “Libby” Smith.
Elizabeth taught Math at Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach until she retired due to illness. After retirement, she remained active in the school system by volunteering at many school events. She served as Chairperson for the All Night Graduation committee for several years at Kempsville High School and was previously selected as PTA volunteer of the Year.
Elizabeth was an avid reader and she loved the beach. She loved spending time with family and friends: having family get-togethers and game nights and Friday nights at the Mexican restaurant. She loved to travel and spend time at the family home in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
A memorial service for Elizabeth will be held at Avalon Church of Christ in Virginia Beach on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 am.
