On Sunday, June 29, 2025, God in His infinite wisdom, called Grinnell home. Our hearts were saddened when Grinnell answered the call, but thankful for his new home in glory. Elvin Grinnell Whiting, of 3 Probasco Lane, Hampton, VA was born April 7, 1957, in Petersburg, VA; he was the youngest child of the late George Whiting, Sr and Ora B. Butts-Whiting
Grinnell, as he was affectionally called, received his education from Petersburg High School. He worked many years at the U. S Army Base Ft Lee, Petersburg, VA and later worked for Wingfield Janitorial Services, LLC until his health began to decline, Grinnell was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, and he loved to watch NASCAR as often as he could. In his younger days, he loved to play baseball. Grinnell was a man of very few words but loved spending time with the family. His grandchildren and his great-grandchildren were his greatest joy, he loved when they came through the door and called out for “Papa”.
Grinnell was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his one and only child, his dedicated and loving daughter LaToya Hunter and her husband Jonathan Hunter, four grandchildren, TyQuan Hayes, Jayla Hunter, Omari Gilchrist, and Laila Hunter, along with two great-grandchildren Khari and Kaiden Hayes. His siblings, Louis Whiting, Lois Whiting, and George “Tweety Bird” Whiting; two nephews and one niece; one uncle Calvin Butts (Dorothy) and one Aunt Alice Butts and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
