Kilmarnock-Faith Taylor Home Diehl is the sailor, home from the sea.
Faith Taylor Diehl, age 88, passed away after a bout with ovarian cancer on January 14, 2021. She was born in Duxbury, MA, daughter of William Watson Taylor and Marion Gilbert Taylor. She is survived by siblings Shannon Sumner of Kilmarnock, VA, Tobey Taylor of Brookline, MA, and William Watson Taylor, Jr. of Duxbury, MA. A graduate of University of Maine, Orono, Faith married her college sweetheart, Karl Roger Burton (des.) in 1953. She received her Master’s degree in Library Science from Emory University, Atlanta, GA.
Faith raised her 3 surviving children in Scituate, MA; Dana Burton Oman of Riva, MD, Karl Roger Burton, Jr. of Venice, FL, and Kerry Burton Rackliffe of Marina Del Rey, CA. She later married Daniel Edward Diehl (des.) of Philadelphia, PA. Faith lived and worked in Annapolis, MD for over 40 years.
She was the technical librarian at ECAC/ITRI. Faith retired as reference librarian for Anne Arundel County in 2012 at the age of 80. Sailing was her heart’s delight. She worked as a charter chef in the Caribbean. She also made a 3/4 around the world circumnavigation, sailing from Annapolis west about to Knysna, South Africa. Faith was happiest sailing across the bay from Back Creek. She was a founding member of Eastport Yacht Club.
Faith will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend who had a keen sense of adventure and a taste for whimsy. She will be dearly missed.
There will be a private celebration of her life this summer.
