Frances Lee Lewis was born on March 9th, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio to the parents of Robert and Marlene Lewis. She was the oldest of their three children. Frances graduated from Trotwood Madison High School in 1977. She later went on to graduate in 1981 with her Bachelor’s degree in psychology at Bowling Green State University. Frances’ first job out of college was to serve as a Montgomery County Ohio Juvenile Court Intake Counselor, serving juvenile delinquents and status offenders and their parents from 1982 to 1989.
On August 4th, 1984, she married her husband, David Plummer, and his career in the military took them to Fort Riley, Kansas in 1989. While in Kansas, Frances found her niche as a volunteer counselor with Life Choice Crisis Pregnancy Center of Manhattan. She remained a volunteer until 1992 when her husband left active duty and they relocated to Dallas, Texas to serve at a ministry headquartered there. During the six years that her husband served that ministry, Frances focused on working part-time for the Nielson surveying corporation. While in Dallas, Frances discovered she had fertility issues and in 1997, after undergoing various procedures, Frances and David were blissfully pregnant with their first and only child, Virginia.
With some transition in the Dallas ministry, Frances, her husband, and Virginia relocated to Newport News, Virginia. There, she focused on raising Virginia and volunteering weekly with the Hope Community Church foodbank. Around 2004, Frances then worked for Hope Community Church and All Generations Church as their bookkeeper until her divorce in 2016. After that, Frances chose to retire early and help provide for Virginia during her college and nursing school experience. Frances provided all of the love, encouragement, support, and meals to help Virginia handle the stress and rigor of nursing school.
On Sunday, August 4th, 2024 in Newport News, Virginia, Frances Lee Lewis Plummer breathed her last breath and was welcomed home into the marvelous arms of her Lord and Savior. Frances leaves behind her daughter, Virginia Plummer, 26, her younger sister, Elizabeth “Libby” DeNoto, and her younger brother, Robert F. Lewis II, along with six nieces and too many friends to count. Frances was a kind, compassionate, and caring person, but most of all she was a wonderful mother. If anyone was ever in need, Frances would do whatever she could to help those closest to her whether it was making a meal to feed a family or offering a listening ear and good advice.
Frances’ Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 2pm in the Sanctuary of Menchville Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that attendees bring a fond memory of Frances along with their favorite food dish to share at the reception following the service. If bringing food, please arrive at the church no later than 1:30pm.
Frances’ graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 2pm in the Grayson Memorial Cemetery in Grayson, Kentucky.
