Worked in the desk next to Gary for some time. He was truly a man of great strength, I never have known such a kind and gentle man. God bless he and his family.

Gary worked with me and my husband at Newport News Shipbuilding. I remember his kind smile and willingness to help anyone with a technical problem, or in the search for information. The world has lost a very kind soul. Our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace Gary, you will not be forgotten. Ken and Sue Sampson Yorktown, Va.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Gary was a wonderful man. Laid back and loved his wife and grandchildren so much. I had the pleasure to meet him and Robin at the Warwick Restaurant. He & Robin helped me with a legal problem as well. I was in tears but after speaking with them a ton of bricks was lifted off my shoulders. God has given him his wings. There will be rejoicing in Heaven as he enters the holy gate. There's no other humble and gentleman as Gary & yes he & Robin were soulmates for sure. They were so good for each other. Prayers for Robin and all the family. He was taken too soon. A great man and mentor rest in peace my friend. Love & hugs to you all,Diana Call

It was very sad, should I even say devastating, to learn that one of my best friends and colleagues for many years, Gary Abbott, passed away unexpectedly (in terms of apparent condition, although he had been struggling with cancer for some months.) I express my deepest sympathies to his wife Robin and all of Gary's family and friends. In addition to enjoying membership in Mensa, Gary and I were ardent explorers of the mysterious Fortean (named after Charles Fort, a newspaper reporter and writer of articles and books who investigated unusual happenings over a century ago) fringes of reality like the UFO phenomenon. We were big fans of Robert Anton Wilson, the protean "23 guy." Like RAW, Gary and I kept a tongue-in-cheek distance from these weird angles, and knew not to take it too seriously (even when it gets serious attention, such as lately about sightings by local Navy pilots!) If I may be so bold: Gary told me awhile ago he was ready for the great unknown.

Our sincerest condolences to Robin and the rest of Gary's family. He was truly an all-around 'good guy' My husband John and I were fortunate to get to meet Gary and Robin a few years ago. They made quite an impression on us by their kindness. May God surround and give his family peace during this sorrowful time.

The measure of a life well-lived is the size of the hole he leaves in the hearts of those who knew him. Gary left many hearts with giant holes.
