Herman Eugene “Tye” Tyree II was born in Abilene, Texas, on September 27, 1943, and passed away on September 17, 2025, with his faithful partner, Gloria, by his side.
The son of the late Herman Eugene Tyree I and Norma Alese (Grabill) Tyree, Tye’s early life was marked by frequent relocation due to his father’s career as an Army officer, to include living overseas in both Japan and Germany. The family eventually settled in Hampton, Virginia.
Tye earned his Bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, and honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
A man of quiet passion, Tye was an avid collector of military memorabilia and firearms. He held a special fondness for animals, particularly his extended family’s dogs and especially his beloved cat, “Jeep.”
He was preceded in death by his parents. Tye is survived by his daughter, Mary Alese Liedman (Sean); his granddaughter, Grace Ann Liedman; and his loving partner of more than 30 years, Gloria Dawn Peters.
A service will be held at a later date at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington, Virginia.
