Janet Fuller Werndli, 91, died peacefully on March 6, 2024. Janet was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She is predeceased by her husband, William (Bill); her mother, Bertha Lewis; father, Ralph Lewis; and her brother, Richard Fuller.
Janet was a graduate of Waterford High School in Waterford, N.Y. She was a graduate of Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., class of 1955, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Janet retired from Virginia Beach Health department, where she worked as a Medical Technologist and manager, after 20 years. Janet was an active member of the Virginia Beach community through her time in May Farm Garden Club, Virginia Council of Garden Clubs, HANDS Program, Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission, Beautification Commission, Bikeways and Trails Advisory Committee, Francis Land House Board of Governors, and the Tidewater Horse Council. She was a long-time member of King’s Grant Presbyterian Church.
She was an avid animal lover and loved many pets throughout her ninety-one years. She is predeceased by her horses, Rattling Martha, Rosemont, Flicka, Satin, and C.C.; her dogs, Emmy, Max, Brindle, Ubu, Freckles, and Chewy; and her cats, Oliver, Kashmir, Tiger, and Olivia.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Kim Riner and husband Richard of Virginia Beach; her son, William Barry Werndli and wife Maya of Troy, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Caitlyn Holmes and husband Stephen of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; Kelsey Riner of Virginia Beach; Kendal Riner of Mermaid Beach, Queensland, Australia; Hayden and Hannah Werndli of Troy, N.Y.; and two bonus grandchildren, Eve Escalera and Ella Fernandez of Troy, N.Y. She is also survived by her cat, Mariah.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23rd at 2 p.m. at King’s Grant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chris Carrasco officiating. The memorial service will be live-streamed through the church website at kgpc.org. In honor of Janet’s love of horses, we encourage all to wear their “Derby Day Best”.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Untamed Spirit, a therapeutic riding program, or to King’s Grant Presbyterian Church designated to the Walk to Bethlehem
