Janet Lynn Eggen passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 77. Born on September 29, 1948, in Bremerton, Washington, Janet lived a life full of creativity, love, and unwavering faith.

Janet’s passion for art was evident in every brushstroke she made, particularly in her cherished watercolors. Her vibrant works captured the beauty of the world around her and inspired countless students during her career as an art teacher. She believed that art was not just a subject to be taught but a way to connect with the soul and express the inexpressible.

A woman of strong faith, Janet was a dedicated member of the First Lutheran Church of Norfolk, where she found solace and community. Her faith guided her through life’s challenges and joys, and she shared this light with everyone she met.

Janet’s love for her friends and family was boundless. She had a unique ability to make those around her feel valued and cherished, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A memorial service celebrating Janet’s life and legacy will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at First Lutheran Church of Norfolk located at 1301 Colley Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23517.

I remember Ms. Eggen as my art teacher at Park View High and she was kind and supportive. My condolences to her family.

Janet was a wonderful lady.

To Janet's family and friends, my deepest condolences. I, for one, am going to miss her greatly. I had the privilege of being Janet’s ballroom dance teacher for many years, and she brought so much grace and dedication into the studio. She truly loved dance and music, especially Argentine tango, which she embraced with both passion and curiosity. Beyond her talent, she was thoughtful and generous—often arriving with beautiful flowers from her garden or a few pieces of chocolate, small gestures that spoke volumes about who she was. She will be remembered not only for her love of dance, but for the kindness and warmth she shared so freely with those around her.

I’m so sorry to hear of Janet’s passing. We had been friend since high school in Taiwan. I visited her many times at her town houses in northern Virginia and Virginia Beach. I own several of her paintings. She was an incredible artist. I will miss her dearly. Sleep with the angels sweet friend. Say “hi” to brother Steve.
