With love and fond memories, we announce that Jerry Eugene Onhaizer, Captain, United States Navy (Ret.), completed his journey on March 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. Though our hearts are heavy, we are celebrating the incredible life he lived. Jerry began his journey in Yoakum, TX, in 1932, and was a true Texan. It was at the University of Texas that Jerry met Kay, the love of his life and his wife of 69 years. Their secret to a long marriage is summed up in the following words, “A couple that plays together, stays together.” They golfed, played bridge, and traveled to Nags Head, Bryce Mountain, Florida, and many other destinations around the world, always together!
Jerry loved the Navy and the opportunity it gave him to serve his country. His final tour was as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Investigative Service, and he was a decorated Intelligence Officer, making many lifelong friends along the way. He loved his country and was a proud American. After the Navy, Jerry went on to a highly successful Real Estate career where he earned many top awards – but more importantly, he earned the love of his clients.
Known for his kind and loving spirit, he made everyone he ever met feel important. Jerry had passion for hunting, golfing and fishing, but it was his love for his family that was most important. He always took the time to say “Love ya.” Whether he was golfing, loving his grandchildren, or just going about his day, Jerry brought kindness to everyone around him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Lottie, and his granddaughter Amy Onhaizer. He is survived by his wife Kay; sons Jerry (Wanda), Rusty (Ann), and Doug (Jennifer), and daughter Cindy Faltisco (Paul); grandchildren Casey, Kelly, Tiffany, Brittany, Morgan, Nicole, Kyle, Victoria, Emily and Charlie; fourteen great-grandchildren; his sister Janet Macatee, and many extended family members who will forever carry forward his spirit of kindness and love of family.
Please join us for a celebration of Jerry’s life on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church. A reception will follow. Jerry earned the honor of being buried at Arlington National Cemetery, but forever thinking of the love of family, chose to be buried with full Military honors at a private ceremony held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia. This allows Jerry to remain close to all who love him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Chapel Pantry at Eastern Shore Chapel in honor of Jerry.
