Jill Susanne Charlton, 72, of Virginia Beach, VA took her final bow surrounded by the love (and laughter) of her family at Coastal Care Homes. Born May 1, 1953, in Saginaw, MI, to James and Janice (Pederson) Ogram, she was never one to blend quietly into the background. Jill was the music, the laughter, and the spotlight in every room she entered.

Jill’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her children Jamie (Amy), Scott (Christi), Ryan (Colleen), and Ashley (Jon); grandchildren Logan, Abigail, Meghan, Avery, Caden, Jack, Reese, Addison, Dylan, Joseph, Savannah, Jude, Taylor, Carter, and Kennedy. All of them inherited a sprinkle of her sparkle, and a dash of her Daytona-500 lead foot (she drove like she lived life: fast and full of passion for those she loved and things she did). She was predeceased by her parents; and brother Jimmy. Surviving siblings include sisters Janeen, Jayne (John), and Joni (David); brother John (Louise); and sister-in-law OkHwa; and countless nieces and nephews. As a military wife for 30 years, Jill packed up homes, kids, and memories more times than most. She did it all with grit, charm, and a knack for throwing a party anywhere in the world. When life handed her a challenge, Jill responded the only way she knew how — with resilience, joy, and her contagious smile.

Her happiest times were spent surrounded by children. She cherished her years in the classroom — a role that allowed her to do what she did best: love. She poured her heart into every child she met, leaving behind lessons and sayings (“Sharing is caring” or “Just keep swimming”) that will resonate in her legacy. After her children grew up, she spent many loving and happy years with Art traveling, playing golf, relaxing on beaches, and enjoying lasting friendships. Jill leaves behind a family that adored her, friends who will miss her, and countless stories that will keep people smiling for generations. She shared the spotlight with everyone around her. In Jill’s honor, crank up the music, sing at the top of your lungs, and never, ever wait for permission to dance.

A service will be held to honor Jill’s life at 11:00 AM on December 2, 2025 at the Catholic Church of St. Mark in Virginia Beach, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncrest Hospice (suncrestcare.com), or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
