John Arthur Reed, born on May 16, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Newport News, VA, at the age of 70. His journey through life was marked by a profound love for animals, creativity, and family.
A self-employed lawn care by trade, John found beauty in the world around him and worked tirelessly to bring that beauty to others. His dedication to his craft was evident in every garden he touched, each one a testament to his hardworking spirit and artistic vision. Beyond his professional life, John was a man of many passions. He had an artist’s soul, finding joy in both painting and pottery, always expressing his vibrant inner world through his creations.
John’s love for animals, especially dogs, was well-known among those who knew him. His heart held a special place for all creatures, great and small. A man of simple pleasures, he cherished the color blue, indulged in the delight of a freshly baked pie—never forgetting to say a prayer before enjoying it—and found comfort in a good Hallmark movie.
John also had a great love for Christmas time. The holiday season was not just a time of celebration for him but a period of pure enchantment. He found immense joy in the twinkling lights and festive displays, particularly cherishing his visits to Busch Gardens during Christmas Town. There, surrounded by dazzling lights, he made cherished memories that brought him endless happiness.
Always impeccably groomed, John carried a comb in his pocket and maintained a clean shave, taking pride in his appearance. His fondness for flannel button-ups and Little Debbie’s Nutty Buddies were part of his charming personality. Music was another of John’s great loves, with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones providing the soundtrack to his life.
Above all, John was a loving and caring man, fiercely protective of his sisters and devoted to his family. His kindness and warmth left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Vernon Culler Reed “Bud,” and his beloved aunt, Nancy Durst.
John leaves behind his cherished sisters, Lori A. Boschelli (Daniel A. Boschelli Jr.), Wendy White (Benny White), Debbie Nichols, and Linda Droessler, as well as his nieces and nephews: Shannan Rush (Stephen Jones), Megan McLaughlin, Michael Rush, Steven Rush, Scott White, Jessica Lambert, Eddie Nichols, Vanessa Balsamo, Tyler Balsamo, and extended family who will miss him dearly.
