John J. Oliver passed away on May 12, 2024 in Chesapeake, VA. He was born on July 27, 1945 in Waterbury, CT to the late Claire Jean (nee Swift) McCulloch and John Davis. He is also predeceased by his adopted father, Vernon Oliver; stepfather, Harold “Mac” McCulloch; grandparents: Edwin and Bertha (nee Brown) Swift and Allie Mae Vannostran and James G. Davis; siblings: William Oliver, Robert Oliver, Bertha McCulloch, Raymond McCulloch, David McCulloch; nephew, Marty McCulloch; niece, Colene (McCulloch) Beck; and son-in-law, Salvatore Ardito, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Jocelyn Oliver, Shannon Oliver, and Lisa J. Oliver and her fiancé, George C. Klimaszewski, Jr.; grandchildren: Claire-Jean Bailey (Joshua), Amanda-Marie Matoaka Ardito (Peter Legendre), and Douglas N. Minuki Palomino; great-grandsons, Justin and Zackary Legendre; siblings: Wayne Oliver (Eileen), Claire (nee Potsy) Luccia (John), Glenn McCulloch, Susan Servidas, and Marty McCulloch; sisters-in-law: Nancy McCulloch, Cynthia (nee Booth) Spina, Dana Oliver, Vicky McCulloch, Carol Luna, and Donna McCulloch; nieces and nephews: Dawn (nee Oliver) Rosa, Anthony Oliver, Leslie (Oliver) Petro, Arik Oliver, Neesha Oliver, Sara Oliver, Jesse Oliver, Ilene Oliver, David C. McCulloch, Heather McCulloch, Stacy McCulloch, Danny Luccia, Matthew Luccia, Krissy Luccia, David L. McCulloch, Justin McCulloch, Aaron McCulloch, Michelle McCulloch, Jesy McCulloch, Michael McCulloch, Jimmy McCulloch, Robert Servidas, Tiffani Servidas, Joseph Spina, and Jessica Spina; and many Swift cousins, extended relatives, and friends. John is also survived by his beloved dog, Heavenly Pickles.
The family would like to give special thanks and gratitude to Roberta and Steven Wexler for their compassion and support and to his nurse, Monique White, with Medi Hospice for the outstanding care, compassion, and laughs she supplied John. Many thanks are also extended to his Girl Scout cookie dealer, Shea Sayre Lawrence, who always brightened his day and put a smile on his face. Special thanks also go out to family friends, Pamela Newell-Alkhafagi and Kathy Travis for all the support they have given to John and Lisa through the years.
