John Lee Holland Sr., passed away peacefully at home in Virginia Beach on Friday, May 26, 2023, of an ongoing illness. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Churchland High School in 1957. John was the owner of Holland Flight Services at the Hampton Roads Airport, where he was awarded the Virginia Flight Instructor of the Year Award. He loved flying and teaching others how to fly. John was also the owner of John L. Holland Enterprises until he sold the business and retired in 1999. He will be remembered as an avid lover of animals.

John is preceded in death by his father John Henry Holland and mother Mary Epa Clark Holland. He was previously married to Sue Moody Bell and they share their son John Lee Holland Jr. (spouse Michelle Holland) and daughter Debbie Ann Cochenour both of Virginia Beach. John is also survived by sisters, Helen Reiter (spouse Ron Reiter) of Halifax, VA, and Martha Small of Glen Mills, PA; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5033 Rouse Dr. Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
