We grew up with Joe in Scottsville, Va and had lots of fun times with him. Actually back in our teenager years, we double dated with him and his Scottsville girl friend. His family, his brother Jimmy and his sisters Dreama and Lola were well known also in our small little town. Joe left Scottsville for Newport News to work at the ship yards. He often would come back to visit his brother and would stop by to see us. Our sympathy to Susie and his daughter and to his sisters, Lola & Dreama. RIP long time friend. Date of Death: November 23, 2025 Joseph Hayton, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at the age of 76. He lived a life full of love, dedication, and inspiration. Joe’s career as a Production Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding was marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. His work left an indelible mark on the industry, and many lives there were touched by his friendship. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was a man of diverse interests and passions. He had an insatiable curiosity for life, which he expressed through his love for traveling, reading, and solving puzzles. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he found great joy in studying his Bible, teaching Bible classes, and preaching the word of God. He was a devoted member of the Gloucester Church of Christ and served as an elder there in years past, as well as at the Hampton Church of Christ. Joe inspired those around him with his wisdom, compassion, and his love of the Lord. Education was important to Joe, and he pursued it diligently, earning a computer program certificate from Tidewater Tech and studying engineering for shipbuilding at Thomas Nelson College. His lifelong pursuit of knowledge was a testament to his belief in the power of learning and growth. Family was the heart of Joe’s world. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones, especially with his beloved wife of 54 years, Susie Hayton. “I’ll Never Find Another You” by The Seekers was their song, and he proudly told people that it reminded him of the love and devotion they shared. Joe is survived by his wife, Susie Hayton; his daughter, Aimee Hutcherson, and her husband Patrick; grandsons Van Hutcherson and his partner Kait, and Joseph Hutcherson; granddaughter Emily Hutcherson and her fiancé Reymar; and great-grandson Peyton Hutcherson. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Dreamma Hayton and Lola Snoddy. Joe was preceded in death by his loving parents, Kate and Hurston Hayton; his brother, Jimmy Hayton; and his special niece, Angela Moore. Throughout his life, Joe touched the hearts of many with his kindness, humility, and strength. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us all to live with purpose, love deeply, and embrace each day with gratitude, always putting God first in our lives. Joe proudly lived a joyful life in the Lord.

Dearest Susie & Family,; We were so saddened to hear the news of Joes passing. We were all blessed to be recipients of his warmth, kindness, wisdom and humor over the years at Colonial Pancake House. One of our fondest memories is when Joe & Susie would always bring everyone’s favorite candy packaged up in little individual bags. Wherever Joe went, He would share the light of Christ. Praying for Gods peace and comfort in the the days ahead. George & Rita Prasssas & Colonial Pancake House Staff

I will forever hear him say “Hey, pretty lady”. Sometimes he even called me youngun on occasion, even though I’m 74. My husband and I loved Joe and admired his dedication to the Lord and His Word. We first met Joe and Susie at church and when they were younger he and Cliff would hang out. Joe has left a big impression in many lives. He will be missed.

I know that God is looking down on y'all and He will grant you the strength needed to get through this terribly tough time. Joe was more than a coworker to me.
