I am so sorry to hear of this loss in the world. He was a great, sweet and honorable man whom I thought very highly of. Lisa I am sorry for your loss.
I just heard of Divot's passing from a former Joint Forces Staff College colleague. As "CAPT Jerauld" he was more than my boss, he was a kind, thoughtful, and bright friend. I fondly recall the conversations we had; like talking with an old friend. He will be missed. Fair winds and following seas Divot.
Dear Lisa and Family our deepest condolences you all are in our thoughts and prayers. With Love ❣

My sincerest sympathy goes out to "Skipper" Jarauld's family. This is a huge loss to the Valion family.
Rest in peace, my friend.
Renee and I were honored to serve along side Joe and Lisa in our time in the Navy. I cherish the friendship and time I spent with Joe and loved working with him during my time in VFA 15. He and Lisa were always great friends and provided us both with excellent advice and support. Joe treated everyone with respect and fairness. I know Joe’s faith was strong and he is in a better place. Lisa please know that Renee and I are praying for you and your family. Ed &Renee Langford
Such a great man. Always had a smile on his face and a positive thing to say. I had no idea Joe was such an accomplished pilot, speaks to how humble he was. He set a great example on how to love God and live one's l
Joe was my cousin, the son of my dad’s youngest brother. As kids we primarily interacted at family gatherings on Cape Cod, where our grandfather, aunts, uncles and other cousins lived.
It wasn’t until my dad died that we reconnected as adults. Joe accompanied Lisa, Nancy and his father to my dad’s funeral in South Florida. He attended the funeral wearing his dress white navy uniform to honor my dad‘s World War II Navy service. He also accompanied his father to my dad’s burial on Cape Cod, where he played the guitar and led us all in the Navy hymn. It was then that I realize what a neat guy my cousin was.
We were honored to be invited to attend Joe‘s retirement from the Navy. I remember feeling a sense of pride hearing about the various aspects of his career, knowing that both our fathers shared that same heritage. He was exactly the type of person you want to have protecting our country.
One of our favorite memories was a shared trip to Marathon in the Florida Keys. Joe, Lisa and Audrey drove down with his smoker and “Mr. B“, a big brisket which is easily one of the best pieces of meat I’ve ever eaten. Even though the weather kept us from going out in the boat, we enjoyed fishing from the dock, especially our shark fishing after dark.
Joe would text me during the Honda Classic, a golf tournament that takes place near our home in Florida. I had always hope he could have the chance to watch a few rounds in person. But God had other plans for him.
Joe’s faith sustained him, and I look forward to the day when we are reunited. I feel blessed to have had him as a part of our lives.
I didn’t know Joe very well as I only met him a few times. Having read this tribute to him I am so amazed at how he gave of himself his entire life to help his country, his fellow man and his loving family in everything he did which involved great risk and sacrifice. My heart goes out to his beautiful family in their time of sadness. I pray that God eases their pain and suffering and helps them be comforted and receive His peace and healing. I have faith that Joe is at peace in Heaven with God for all eternity and will be reunited with all his loved ones in time. ?❤️?
Tremendously sad to hear of Divot's passing. We crossed paths on multiple occasions throughout our careers, and from the first time we met, he was someone I deeply respected and admired as a leader, mentor, and friend. Gone far too soon, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Our deepest sympathies to Lisa and the family.
Holly & I will treasure the memories we have of Joe and his wonderful family. We value his service to our nation and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. God bless you Joe.

You will be missed by our Emmanuel family where you brought much joy and sunshine. I treasure our time together on Vestry and to listen to you play guitar and sing. Forever Fly Safe.
Of all the Executive Officers that I have worked with, Joe was by far the best! He was an amazing leader, pilot, mentor and friend! You will be sorely missed! Fair winds and following seas!
A great leader, I will follow him into battle any day.
Was the honor of a lifetime to serve under Skipper Jerauld as my first XO with the Valions. Always had a smile on his face and positive words. Rest easy sir. We have the watch!
Served twice with Capt. Jerauld, VA/VFA-81 and again in VFA-15. I liked him from the first time I met him. He brought it full circle when he caught with up with me, shortly after checking into 15. He always chatted with me and always had a joke or something funny to share. He wished me farewell and gave me positive thoughts, when we had our sit down, before I retired. He was my CO, but also my friend.
Divot,
Fair winds and following seas to one of the nicest people I've ever met. You were a good friend and a great leader. My deepest condolences for your family.
Had the privilege to serve with him in VFA15.Rest in peace sir fly high among the angels.
SINCERE CONDOLANCES TO THE JERAULD FAMILY AND FELLOW VALIONS??RIP DIVOT????????????????
Lisa, Ben and Audrey, our hearts are hurting with you as well as rejoicing with the celestial choir that surely has Joe singing loud and clear as we saw him do each Sunday, regardless of how he felt. There was a joy in him that was always visible to those around him, even near his last days on earth. May the God Joe loved, and who continues to love him beyond our sight, bless you all with the comfort of His presence. Joe is in wholly in His presence and abundantly glad. We send our love to you.
Skipper, from prepping your aircraft, to skiing in Tahoe, to the epic Ryder Cup, then deployment of 05-06 what an awesome time. To Joe's family and friends, I send my most sincere condolences and hope the memories and stories help with healing. Rest in peace and keep watch over us Joe.

Divot and I were roommates in VFA-27 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He was the senior Dept Head and I was the junior one, and I remember the important lessons he taught me about managing people and living a good life during our late night talks. We overlapped again as XO/COs in Oceana and I feel lucky to have known such a great American and family man. Fair winds and following seas, my Brother!
I am saddened to lose a fellow sailor, Christian, and Brother in the Cursillo movement. I know that you are with Jesus, and worshiping God in person. Fair winds and following seas my friend!

The loss of this great warrior, patriot, and family man comes much too soon. I first deployed with CAPT Joe Jerauld when we were both JO's on USS Dwight D Eisenhower in 94-95. He in VFA-105, me in VF-32. I would go on to work for him a few years later as his Training Officer when he was OPSO of the VFA-27 Royal Maces, home-ported in Japan. Nothing but great times and fond memories of mine and my families' time with Joe, Lisa, Ben, and Audrey. Joe, you will be sorely missed, but NEVER forgotten.
Thoughts and prayers to the Jerauld family

My deepest condolences. One of my favorites in a career full of COs and XOs. He will be sorely missed by me. This trend of loss in my years since leaving the USN is something I will never get use to. I was privileged to serve with a such a Great Officer.
Divot was 1st my XO & then my Skipper when I rep’d VFA-15. Over a short time we became tight. In short he was very hood to me & everyone he came in contact with…….as I witnessed it 1st hand.
We ate together, we shared stories together, we talked Guitar a lot & we DRANK TOGETHER !
He was loved by all but no more so by Lisa, Ben & Audrey. He was the ultimate Husband, Father, Friend & Leader. I will miss him dearly…..
In conclusion, he was a GREAT LEADER & DEFENDER OF OUR NATIONS FREEDOMS.

My deepest condolences to Lisa, Ben and Audrey. It’s been many years but I still remember cousin Joe’s warmth and sense of humor. I hope you find comfort in the happy memories during this painful time.
Joe's positive upbeat approach to life will surely be missed. I was my pleasure to work with him at Joint Forces Staff College. I followed his journey with cancer with prayers and wishes for wellness. So sorry to see him gone much too soon.
Thank you for your service Joe; to your country, your church and to your Lord and Savior. Job well done good and faithful servant. Love you my Brother.
Thank you for your service Joe; to your country, your church and to your Lord and Savior. Love you my Brother.
Joe spent two years with the USN in Bahrain and, with a group of other Senior Naval Officers, made their spiritual home in St Christopher’s Cathedral, the Episcopal Cathedral of the Gulf for the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. He would regularly bring his guitar and share in the leading of the worship. His joy and faith radiated to the wider community.
My wife Tricia and I with our eldest daughter Alex visited the Jerauld family in Virginia Beach in the summer of 2013. We had so many rich experiences, including an unseasonal Thanksgiving Dinner, so determined was Joe to give three Brits a taste of important American traditions and hospitality and we had the privilege of joining them in worship in their home church, where again Joe was playing his guitar.
Sadly, we had planned to visit again last year, but Covid ended that possibility.
We send our love and condolences to Lisa, Audrey and Ben and hold you in our prayers.
May Joe rest in peace and rise in glory.
