Josephine R. Saal, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on March 19, 2022. She was predeceased bu her parents, Ralph and Wanda Collette; sister, Peggy Baker and brother, James Collette.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 68 years, Ronald Saal, and sons, Steve Saal (Jane) and Ken Saal (Joanne). Jo was deeply loved by all who knew her, and she shared a special relationship with each of her grandchildren : Scott (Diane), Alex, Ryan, Kaitlin, and great-grandson, James.
Affectionately known as “Nanny”, she never missed an opportunity to watch her grandchildren play golf, basketball, field hockey, softball, perform in the theater, and compete in gymnastics meets. Over three decades, Jo saw nearly every competition and performance her grandchildren participated in. In more recent years, Jo loved to FaceTime with her little James and watching him use his toddler-sized putter.
Jo was an avid golfer herself, and her family loved to brag that the matriarch carded two career holes-in-one. She often spoke fondly of her ladies’ group at Kempsville Greens Golf Club and shared so many wonderful memories with them over the years.
Jo Saal was a world-class seamstress and spent many hours in her sewing room altering four generations of Saal family clothing. These talents were also on display when she made dolls, doll clothes, and crib bumpers for children of friends, family, and local charities. There was nothing she couldn’t make or fix!
She will be remembered during a private service on a later date.
Please leave a memory or word of condolence with the family.
