Karen Lee Intrieri, 83, of Virginia Beach passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at home surrounded by her family after a long and brave battle with cancer.
A native of Port Washington, NY, she was the daughter of the late Svend and Lydia Petersen. She had many occupational talents but her main focus was raising her two daughters. Karen was a member of Old Donation Episcopal Church since 1967 where she chaired and volunteered on numerous committees and was very active in the congregation.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Leonard Intrieri, and her brother, Stephen Petersen. She is survived by two daughters: Laura Harper and husband, Kenneth, of Hampton, VA and Sherrylyn Furchtenicht and husband, Michael, of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Candy Bergquist and husband, David, of Naples, FL and Anice Petersen of Hebron, NH; two grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Furchtenicht; two sister-in-laws: Isabelle Andrews and husband, David, of Owasso, OK and Kay Petersen of Pettus, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She is also survived by her friend of 57 years, Phyllis Awbrey.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Virginia Oncology Associates, especially Dr. Alberico and his team, Wings Over Virginia Hospice, for their kindness and consideration.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Old Donation Episcopal Church at 4449 N Witchduck Rd in Virginia Beach. Interment will follow in the church columbarium along with a reception at the church.
