Kathleen Elizabeth Cannon entered into the gates of Heaven on November 22, 2023 after a heroic struggle with ALS. Kathy went in peace surrounded by family including her husband of 58 years, James (“Jimmy”); her daughter Amy Savage (and son-in-law Justin Savage); her two grandchildren, Kaitlin Savage and Justin “Alex” Savage; her beloved sisters and brothers Donna Halstead, Nancy Pilley, Jay Coyle (and his wife Judy), and Steve Bagley; and her many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was born in 1945 in Washington, DC and moved to Norfolk as a child. She graduated from Oscar F. Smith High School in 1964 and married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy, an avid surfer and waterman. Even though Kathy didn’t care for the beach, she loved Jimmy from the bottom of her heart and went on to have two children, Amy and Michael whom they raised in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Kathy gave her love to the Lord and her family. Kathy taught Sunday School for decades at Rosemont Christian Church in Portlock and in later years enjoyed Young at Heart senior trips and luncheons with Jimmy and friends at First Baptist Church of Norfolk. For 25 years, she attended Beta Sigma Phi sorority with her sisters, Donna and Nancy, and also founded a crafts business with them, KDN Accents. Kathy loved spending time with her grandchildren, Kaitlin and Alex, with whom she traveled to many places, including Disney World, Ireland, London, and Paris. Kathy’s other loves included macaroni and cheese with tomatoes, Nancy Thomas Angels, and fussing at Jimmy for cutting up.
Kathy worked for many years at CV International in Norfolk, a job she began after Kaitlin’s birth so she could spoil her grandchildren. Kathy and Jimmy made many friends at CV International, who always supported her and the family.
Kathy’s family will schedule a celebration-of-life later. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ALS Association, at their website, als.org, or call (888) 949-2577.
