On July 14, 2021, Kent D. Decker passed away at the age of 83. Kent was the only child of Gladys and Murray and was born on Halloween, 1937 in New Rochelle, NY. He and his parents moved to Newport News while Kent was attending Warwick High School and went on to receive a Civil Engineering degree from VMI. He worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding, designing and building submarines and aircraft carriers for 45 years.
In 1992, Kent married Betsy Furman and together they had a grand time, traveling to Europe several times and participating in the many care club activities. Always a car guy, Kent was a member of the Andiamo Car Club and later the Alfa Romero Car Club, Hampton Roads Branch.
Kent leaves behind his wife, Betsy; his three daughters, Lisa Decker Griffith and her husband, Tom and their two sons, Duryea (Mara), Gavin, and daughter, Tora of Lincolnville, Maine; Jennifer Decker of NYC, and Cathy Decker Ciulla and her husband, Michael and their children, Sophie, Henry, and twins Alexander and Bennett of Irvington, NY.
A quiet man, Kent loved to socialize and every once in awhile would come out with a very funny, “dry” humor joke. He will be missed by all of us.
Arrangements in care of Cremation Society of Virginia – Newport News Office.
