Chesapeake, VA – Lawrence Laroy Monk, passed peacefully at home on December 16, 2025. Born March 24, 1951 in Cheektowaga NY to the late Elain and Glenn Monk. Larry was a beloved brother to his sister, Linda.
After graduating in 1969, Larry joined the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA where he began to build both his career and his family. Larry retired as a Chief Petty Officer and continued his dedication to service by retiring a second time from Langley Air Force Base as a civilian service member.
Family was always at the heart of Larry’s life. He remained in close contact with his mother, his niece and five sisters and their families in Buffalo. He was also deeply loved by Sharon’s family in Hampton Roads, whom he considered his own.
Sharon was the love of his life and the center of his world. Larry leaves behind his son, Chris Monk and twin grandson, Hunter and Clay; and his daughter, Lainie and granddaughters, Briana and Saige. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He cherished their every accomplishment, laugh, and milestone, speaking of them with pride at every opportunity.
The Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family during this time of loss. Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences at www.vacremationsociety.com. Instead of sending flowers, please reflect on the importance of family and service this holiday season.
As always, GO BILLS!
