Leonard M. Gower, Jr. (Len), 58, passed away January 21, 2019 at his home in Chesapeake, VA after battling cancer.

He was a 1979 graduate of Great Bridge High School. He attended George Washington University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting. He worked many years in this field, but most importantly, he was his mother’s sole care giver for the past decade.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and great uncle. He will truly be missed by all.

He is survived by his mother, Bertha S. Gower; sister Meri Beth Griffin and brother-in-law Brent Griffin, sister Melanie Woolard and brother-in-law Ted Woolard, brother Stan Gower and sister-in-law Rochelle Gower; nephews and nieces Ben Woolard, Amanda and Eric Jones, Ariel and Owen Sawyer, Asa Griffin, Brittany Gower, Shelby Gower and Sydney Gower; great niece Kennedy Jones; Uncles David Sanders, Wayne Sanders, Gary Gower and Aunt Peggy Gower; and many cousins. He is pre-deceased by his father, Leonard M. Gower Sr.

The family will have a memorial gathering Friday, January 25, 2019, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at 1233 Butts Station Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

I’m so sorry to hear of Len’s passing. I found pictures of us from our GWU graduation in 1984. He was my best pal during our time at GW. Such a great guy. My condolences to his family.

God bless Len’s family. We were friends in the ‘80 in DC. He was a super guy.
