Lilla Davis Kuper went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the age of ninety-one. She made her journey surrounded by loving family. She was born on June 22, 1930 to Elisabeth and William Davis. Lilla came into the world with a resoluteness. Doctors thought that she would not survive, but she defied the odds. She was raised in Arlington, Virginia where she graduated from Washington Lee high school in 1948. She then attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she met her husband of 63 years, Harry Stewart Kuper. She received a Bachelor Degree in Education. In the early years, Lilla and Harry lived in Greenville, Knoxville, and Lafayette. In 1968, they established their forever home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Lilla taught at a variety of schools (Center for Effective Learning (CEL), John B. Dey, and Brookwood). She retired in 1991.
Lilla loved her family dearly. She was passionate about attending family gatherings and held a special relationship with each person that she knew. Lilla had an amazing talent for sewing. She especially loved picking out fat quarters with her husband and sewing her “grands” twenty-year quilts. Lilla was an active and dedicated member of Wycliffe Presbyterian church for fifty-two years. She served as an elder on the session, rang handbells, and taught Sunday School. Lilla was spunky, sassy, loving, and had a tell-it-like-it-is attitude, which her family and friends loved. She will be dearly missed.
Lilla was predeceased by her husband, Harry, her son Harry Stewart Kuper Jr, and her son-in-law Mark Lusk. She is survived by her children, Lisa Lusk and Mary-Camille McAllister (John), daughter-in-law, Sandra Kuper, and her seven grandchildren, Carter, Katie, and Hunter Lusk, Stephanie Gibson (Kyle), and Sarah Kuper, Jacob and Caleb McAllister, as well as many family members and friends that cherished her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 18, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church. Per the family’s request masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wycliffe Presbyterian Church, http://wycliffepresbyterian.org.
